
"Goals are proven to be an effective motivation tactic if difficulty is taken into consideration. They should be set high enough to encourage high performance but low enough to be attainable (PSU, 2012). When this grey area is achieved, goals are proven to be effective. If goals are set too high or too difficult than motivation and commitment suffers as a result. Goals that are too easy or too difficult negatively affect motivation and performance. The greatest motivation and performance is achieved with moderately difficult goals (somewhere between too easy and too difficult)."
